Gold for Bewley's of Ireland - 11 Medals!

Bewley's has won 11 gold medals at the prestigious international Great Taste Awards 2010 for its coffee and tea. This is a record number of awards for an Irish coffee and tea company and also means Bewley's was the most successful hot beverage producer in the categories in which it competed.

Among the award winners were Bewley's Special Blend Fairtrade Tea and Earl Grey Loose Tea, which both received two gold stars. Bewley's Original Blend Tea, Gold Blend Tea, Irish Afternoon Tea, Decaffeinated Blend Tea and Irish Afternoon Loose Tea all received one gold star each. Bewley's famous Café Blend coffee was also awarded a gold medal.

The Great Taste Awards, organized by the Guild of Fine Foods, are the acknowledged benchmark of speciality food and drink. They have been described as 'the Oscars' of the food world and the 'epicurean equivalent of the Booker Prize'.

All products are judged by at least three different judging panels. All the tasting is blind and the judges are fine food retailers, chefs, restaurant critics, food writers and other industry experts.
Over 1,300 companies entered the Great Taste Awards 2010, submitting over 6,000 products.

Mark Saunders, General Manager, Retail and At-Home Division, Bewley's, commented, "We are delighted that for the third year in a row, Bewley's have won more Great Taste Awards for our coffees and teas than any other company. This record number of awards is testament to our strong tradition in both tea and coffee."

"The Great Taste Awards are one of the major international authorities on food and drink. The 13 gold medals confirm what Irish consumers have known for generations that Bewley's products are of the highest quality."

"And as a founding member of the Love Irish Food campaign, we are very proud that all of our award-winning coffee and tea products are made in Dublin. The four Bewley's teabag varieties currently available at Bewley Irish Imports, Original Blend, Gold Blend, Special Blend, Decaffeinated Blend, all won gold!"

Bewley's is a much loved, iconic Irish brand with a rich history and world class coffee and tea expertise. It all began in 1835 when Charles Bewley shipped 2,099 chests of tea directly from China. In daring to be so bold, he signaled the end of the East India Tea Company's monopoly and changed the taste of a nation. Following this Bewley's was officially founded in 1840 and expanded into coffee, first as merchants, then opening their immensely popular and world famous Grafton Street Café in Dublin. Today, Bewley's is Ireland's largest coffee company.
